Gr 7's have been completing the Floating Tower Challenge. Students were only given 35 straws and one meter of tape! Students displayed the following objectives:
a chance to work on a real world challenge using a model
to discover strength and stability properties of certain substances and shapes
to understand the importance of a stable base to support the tower
to be put under time constraints, and work with limited materials to find the most efficient way to construct the largest, stable, floating tower
